It doesn’t make a lot of sense to spring for pricey organic shampoos that come in a single use plastic bottle, right

Yes, we need to make big changes if we’re going to reverse this environmental crisis, but we all have to start somewhere. I’m a big believer in small changes, because it’s better to jump in and do what you can than let yourself get overwhelmed and decide it’s just too much to take on. Talking about reducing our footprints and living greener is all well and good, but in practice it can get a little bit overwhelming

The federal government today came out with a report saying that the southwest is going to get much dryer in the coming decades. That means: Less drinking water Less water for crops and livestock More wildfires More conflict between states and cities over river management According to the New York Times : … the places that are feeling water stress now are going to feel more in the future because snow will melt faster, bringing a decline in summertime stream flows

We love a good garden hack around here, so I was pretty excited when I ran across this video on how to make your own upside down tomato planter from a reclaimed five gallon bucket: Upside down planting is a great way to make use of vertical space. The thing this video doesn’t address is making sure that your bucket is anchored well. All of that soil and water is heavy, and you don’t want the planter to fall! It’s also a good idea to place a towel or another bucket under the planter when you water, if you’re hanging this on a porch or deck
