Summer is in full swing, and for crafty business owners that means looking ahead to fall festival season and sorting out what shows we’re applying to and how we’ll display our goods there. This citrus crate jewelry display is a perfect display piece to work on in summer, since citrus is in season and you probably have one or two of these boxes around the house. Check out this video showing you how to turn those citrus boxes into a simple, portable jewelry display

Buying products for your organic garden can be a little bit confusing , so how can we be certain that what we’re buying is organic and safe for edibles? Certifications One of my friends runs an organic farm, so I asked him about certifications for organic plant foods, and he said to keep an eye out for Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) listed products. OMRI is a non-profit company that “provides organic certifiers, growers, manufacturers, and suppliers an independent review of products intended for use in certified organic production, handling, and processing.” The site will also tell you if any product has restrictions, meaning it’s organic for some uses but noth others.

We’ve talked here before about the scourge of single-use plastic , so you can imagine how it warmed my heart to run across this video, where kids are taking plastic bottles and upcycling them into building materials: 1800 children in Guatemala collected 2.5 tons of trash and over 10,000 plastic bottles and used them to help build a school for themselves.

Jennifer Berry from Earth911 shows us how to turn an unused book into a sweet, upcycled vase! This paper vase can’t hold water, but how cute would it be if you filled it up with fabric forever flowers ? All you need to get going are an old book, some reclaimed cardboard to create your template, an exacto or box cutter, glue, and scissors. I think what makes this project extra fun is that you can cut your vase into any shape you like! Berry snagged this project idea from Country Living (it’s slide #7), and I highly recommend checking out their tutorial if you need more deets on how to execute it
