What began as an experiment in window farming became a crowd-sourced answer to our industrialized food system. When Britta Riley wanted to grow her own food, she didn’t let her tiny New York apartment stop her.

Cleaning your refrigerator coils can make it 6 percent more efficient , and some say it can improve the efficiency even more! Last week, we had an energy assessment from our local utility company. Did you know that many utilities will perform an assessment for free? I called Georgia Power, and a week later a very nice fellow showed up to look at our insulation and areas where we could be having air leaks and other energy sucks.

Next time you polish off a bottle of vino, save those corks and reuse them to make super adorable plant markers! Are you guys planting a fall garden? My husband and I just built a raised bed out back, and my seedlings are almost ready to go in the ground! I’ve never planted from seed before, but one thing I figured out immediately is that plant markers are your friend.

I am pretty much in love with this bike pouch made from blown bike inner tubes! The pouch in the photo is by Etsy seller Recyclist , but it looks like her shop is unfortunately empty. Don’t let that dash your dreams of owning your own recycled bike pouch, though! You can whip up your own version with a little bit of sewing know-how. To get started, you need to snag some blown inner tubes

After a friend emailed that she was using Kickstarter to expand her line of eco-friendly paper crafts, I was intrigued! Until now, I’d thought of Kickstarter as a tool for more mainstream small companies and folks trying to raise money for humanitarian projects. Not so! It turns out lots of crafters are already using Kickstarter to launch their businesses, expand their lines, and more! What is Kickstarter?

Don’t you just love finding hidden treasures on the side of the road? Here’s how I turned a seriously ugly painting into a modern chalkboard for my craft room and market display! There is this house in my neighborhood that’s sort of like the Tardis or Mary Poppins’ bag

I was looking back through vacation photos from my husband’s and my 2008 trip to London and ran across the picture above. Congestion charging started in London back in 2003, and they extended the covered area in 2007. Basically, cars that want to drive in certain high-traffic areas have to pay a toll or face a fine
