I spent much of this morning on the phone with a friend who is one of the top leaders in corporate sustainability. He wanted to know my thoughts on “innovation” and “progress.” Did I think they were good or bad? Did I think the drive for both helped or hindered the quest for a life that is both happier for the people and happier for the planet

Hi folks, I wanted to share an email I got from my friend Bill McKibben, leader of 350.org. In it, he explains how the Chamber of Commerce is injecting huge amounts of cash into American politics and blocking action on climate. He says that the Chamber claims to represent all of American business

We talk a lot about eco-friendly paper around here. Of course, the greenest paper option is simply to use less paper . Sometimes, that’s easier said than done, so I wanted to share an inspiring paper-free solution from a local Atlanta company

Yesterday, President Obama, speaking in Tucson, Arizona in the wake of the recent shootings, said: “At a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized, at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do, it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.” I have to be careful when I hear words like these.

I've been worried for a long time that the entire world is held up in solving its problems by the division in the American political system. It's the Republicans' fault. No, it's the Democrats' fault.

I am so frustrated to have to say that the Senate leadership has decided not to bring a bill to the floor to do something about climate change this session. Here is what my friend Gillian Caldwell from 1Sky has to say on the subject, and I agree with her down the line: I am furious and frustrated. We're sweltering here in Washington DC — living on a planet that just survived the hottest six months in recorded history — and yet last week the Senate announced it plans to do absolutely nothing for the foreseeable future about our climate crisis

This weekend I worked with a group junior staff at a certain organization. Part of what we did was workshop what could be done to make their organization more eco-effective or even–a word I like better–”regenerative.” The group elected four representatives to approach senior staff with ideas. I sensed frustration in them and sent them the note below.
