Repurposed Vinyl Record Roofing Shingles


What do you do with those stacks of of old, damaged or just plain bad vinyl records you came across at a garage sale or in your aunt’s attic this summer? If you’re Nashville musician Matt Glassmeyer , you use them as shingles for your porch roof. Glassmeyer attached 350 damaged records to the frame of his deck roof, each with a single roofing nail.

Festival Scene is Green at Outside Lands in San Fran


Many big music festivals are sloppy, dirty affairs–trash is strewn all over the place, there are few easy options for recycling and composting, and sustainability is the last thing on attendees’ minds.  But San Francisco’s Outside Lands music festival, a two-day (formerly three day) production in Golden Gate Park, is different. Last year, the festival’s organizers did an impressive job of putting all things green front and center. This year was no different.

Of Keg Cups and Corn Forks: Composting Takes Root at Bonnaroo


Anytime you assemble 75,000 people in one place there will undoubtedly be some waste — and especially when those people are hungry, thirsty music fans and that place is the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, one of the largest and most ambitious festivals of any kind in the United States. Festival organizers Superfly Productions/AC Entertainment began composting  at Bonnaroo six years ago, but it was 2008 when organizers were faced with the problem of having too much compostable material and nowhere to put it.
