Reduce the Waste from Your Morning Cup


Last week, I talked about the recycled, reusable coffee mugs that my husband picked up, so I was pleased as punch to run across this infographic on just how much waste you can avoid by bringing your own cup to the coffee shop. Check it: I knew that those disposable cups were wasteful, but it’s still pretty staggering when  you think about how much waste they generate over a single customer’s lifetime.

The federal government today came out with a report saying that the southwest is going to get much dryer in the coming decades. That means: Less drinking water Less water for crops and livestock More wildfires More conflict between states and cities over river management According to the New York Times : … the places that are feeling water stress now are going to feel more in the future because snow will melt faster, bringing a decline in summertime stream flows

Eco hostels are springing up everywhere, which is perfect if you’re after the fun and friendliness of budget travel as well as keeping your eco-conscience clean on holiday. Travel has huge impact on the environment (think about the carbon footprint of airlines, for one thing) but that doesn’t mean you need to make a lifetime ban on setting foot outside your neighbourhood
