The folks at Patagonia have teamed up with PlanetShoes.com to launch Patagonia Advocate week, and they’re giving away a pair of shoes to one lucky Green Upgrader reader to help spread the word! Patagonia Advocate Week From today until November 21st, Patagonia will be donating $10 to the Appalachian Mountain Club for every pair of Patagonia shoes they sell at Planet Shoes . The Appalachian Mountain Club is all about protecting the Appalachian wilderness through education and direct action. Their volunteers run workshops, classes, outreach, and maintain over 1,500 miles of trails

There are lots of ways to unload items you aren’t using without sending them to the landfill. You could sell things on eBay or Craigslist, donate to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army, or give them away on Freecycle

While the trend at more and more universities has been to donate usable goods instead of dumpstering, we still send tons of our castoffs to the landfill each year. Clothing and textiles alone account for more than 6% of waste in our country’s landfills. Goodwill Industries is looking to change that with a new campaign highlighting the positive impact of donating to their stores
