Remember Park(ing) Day ? Well, the city of San Francisco has turned the once a year event into something that businesses, and even private citizens, can celebrate every day! Rather than transforming a parking space into a mini park for just one day, San Francisco businesses can get permits for permanent mini parks in front of their establishments. These “parklets” are springing up all over San Francisco and Oakland , turning asphalt into social green space.

This bicycle is made from almost all bamboo and other biodegradable parts. Alexander Vittouris created the “Ajiro” using bamboo, which he molded into shape. Bamboo is very strong, making this a durable bike as well as a beautiful one.

I’m not sure what it is, but I have run across lots of gorgeous examples of unusual, eco-friendly flooring lately! Flooring might not be high up on your list of eco-friendly home decor, but that flooring choice matters. Just like any other wood or paper product, irresponsibly harvested wood contributes to deforestation, and in the case of Brazilian hardwood flooring it’s linked to slave labor .

We talked last week about some cool DIY lighting projects , and I couldn’t resist sharing these clever recycled lights made from discarded Christmas trees! Et Al. Collaborative creates their fLume lamps using old Christmas trees, fallen tree limbs, and wood reclaimed from landscaping projects. They try to only minimally process the wood, so each lamp is one of a kind with shapes that vary quite a bit.

While stocking the house for an evening of board games, I hit up the wine aisle of our local grocery store and was intrigued by a wine display with an “Eco-Glass” label. What is this Eco-Glass? The wine on display in the Eco-Glass boxes was Bay Bridge, which is pretty inexpensive and tastes pretty good for the price point
